Badge: Legion of Honour, 3rd class
Badge of the Legion of Honour awarded to Sir John Ross. A gold star of eight points with white enamelled and gold knobs on the points. The arms are connected by a wreath of oak and laurel, enamelled green. In the centre of the obverse is a gilt bust of Henry IV crowned with laurel surrounded by a dark blue enamelled band with the words "HENRI IV". The reverse depicts two tricolour flags in saltire on a gilt ground with the legend "HONNEUR ET PATRIE" on the encircling enamelled band, below a gold crown enamelled red and green at the base. The badge woas worn suspended around the neck from a crimson ribbon.
