Sir George Biddell Airy (1801-92)
This plaster cast of the head of Airy, the seventh Astronomer Royal at Greenwich, 1835-81, sits on a round socle, on a velvet-lined right-angled wooden mount with a gold fillet.
Previously described as a death mask, it may in fact be an earlier life cast.
