Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Royal Navy 1910-1930
Awarded to Alfred Broughton, Chief Stoker, RN. Obverse: Bust of King George V in naval uniform, orders and medals (left). Legend: 'GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP'. Reverse: Within a knotted rope starboard broadside view of a ship of the line at anchor. Legend: 'FOR LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT'. Inscribed on edge: '170235. A.E. BROUGHTON.CH.STO. H.M.S. ACTAEON'. Suspended from a clasp and dark blue ribbon edged with white.
Chief Stoker Alfred Edward Broughton (1873-1934) entered the Royal Navy aged 19 in 21 November 1892 and was discharged in February 1919. He saw active service in HMS 'Hyacinth' blockading the coast of Somaliland and on anti-pirate duty in the Persian Gulf 1909-1910 in HMS 'Hyacinth'. He married Margaret Edith Deering in 1908. He served in 'Actaeon' 25 November 1913 to 20 May 1915.
