Salvage of HMS TRUCULENT (1942), 1950
A photographic chronicle of the salvage and dry dock examination of HMS Truculent (1942) sunk in collision with the Swedish coaster Divina in January 1950. First album showing post war work of MOD chief salvage officer Lt Cdr Peter Flett (1908-1992).
The album includes photographs, press clippings and a profile plan of the vessel.
Truculent was launched at Barrow and during WWII served on the Russian convoys and in the Far East. She is credited with sinking about 20 ships, laid mines off Penang and was involved in several clandestine operations. She was commanded throughout the war by Commander R L Alexander, DSO, DSC. On the 12th January 1950 she collided with the Swedish vessel Divina in the Thames Estuary and sank. 64 men died as a result of the collision.
