Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840

Awarded to Admiral of the Fleet Sir Geoffrey Thomas Phipps Hornby. Obverse: The head of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem and with hair tied in a knot. Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1848'. Reverse: Britannia seated on a sea horse, a trident in her right hand & an olive branch in her left. Inscription on bar: 'SYRIA'. Inscription on the edge: "G.T.P.HORNBY, MIDSHIPMAN" The medal is suspended by a straight clasp from a white ribbon, edged dark blue. Mounted on a bar with two other medals in fitted case which is numbered ZBA8035.
