Electric deck crane on the 'Aquitania' (1914)
Deck view on the passenger liner 'Aquitania' (1914) showing the forward end of the Second Class Promenade, on the starboard side of the Bridge Deck (B Deck). The Babcock & Wilcox Ltd 1.5-ton electric deck crane used for handling baggage, mail and other light goods is visible.
The strips on the deck in the foreground mark the area strengthened for the mounting of a 6-inch quick firing gun during wartime. Note also the barrier between the First and Second Class Promenades. Over the bulwark can be seen the area to the east of the Gladstone Graving Dock.
