Punch and Judy puppet: Mr Punch
A glove puppet, part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). The puppet represents Mr Punch. Peter Butchard used to tell the children that Punch had odd shoes because he was interupted while cleaning them with raspberry jam. The puppet has a painted wooden head, hands, legs and feet. The legs are covered with sateen red trousers, the feet have non-matching red and blue leather shoes with bows and the figure wears knitted fabric white socks. The body is made of red velvet trimmed with yellow ribbon and braid; it has a hump. The hair is made of white wool and the hooked nose and chin of the face are highlighted in red. The ruff is white synthetic fabric and the figure wears a red velvet pointed hat, trimmed with yellow braid, red bobbles down the front, with a velvet knot at each corner. When not is use the puppet ws hung up by means of a plastic curtain ring sewn on the back.
