Punch and Judy puppet: Mr Punch

A glove puppet representing Punch, part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). The head, hands, feet and legs are made of wood, carved and painted. The hooked nose, cheeks and chin are picked out in red. The body is made of red velvet and is hand sewn. It is decorated with gold braid, yellow braid and bronze-coloured sequins. The hair is made of white wool in a pigtail at the back. The puppet wears a pointed hat and has a hump on its back. the wooden limbs are attached to the fabric body with steel tacks. A brass curtain ring is sewn to the back to hang the puppet up.
