Punch and Judy puppet: Judy
A glove puppet representing Judy, part of a Punch and Judy set belonging to puppeteer Peter Butchard (1909-2009). The puppet has a wooden head and hands, carved and painted. The hooked nose, cheeks and chin are picked out in red paint. The body is made of blue carderoy lined with black satin fabric and is both hand and machine sewn. The apron is broderie anglais, and the neckerchief of blue synthetic fabric. The figure has white wool hair done in a bun at the back, covered with a hood made of knitted synthetic fabric in pink, yellow and turquoise. The top of the hood is black velvet. The cuffs are made of white braid - probably covering nails. A plastic curtain hook is sewn to the back the hang the puppet up.
