Perpetual cigar lighter
A brass perpetual cigar lighter. It is part of Michael Graham-Stewart slavery collection.
The base and stem of the lighter take the form of stylised bird's leg. On top of this is a head-and-shoulders bust of an African man, wearing a studded collar and smoking a cigar. A lid at the back of his head allows the internal cavity to be filled with spirit; a flame would then burn from a wick inserted through the tube that forms the cigar.
