Slave Caravan
The work depicts Africans with guns guarding slaves with two European men in the background. It is signed, dated and inscribed on the reverse: 'Africa Frontispiece...Africa...Coast Men who had been *c, 4.11.92, B15'.
Paget studied at the Royal Academy Schools and accompanied the Gordon Relief Expedition (1884) as war artist for 'The Illustrated London News'. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1884 and also contributed to 'The Sphere' and other periodicals, as well as illustrating books such as 'King Solomon’s Mines' and 'She', both by H. Rider Haggard (1856–1925).
