Musket
Flintlock musket. The stock is made of walnut with a flat brass butt plate and broad brass trigger guard. Two brass ramrod pipes contain a steel ramrod. The lock is a flintlock with a rounded lockplate and a swan neck cock. The barrel is steel, circular, smoothbore and fitted with foresight. The calibre is 0.75in. Inscribed on the lockplate is: 'TOWER Crown' over 'GR', 'TK'. Inscribed on the barrel is a crown over 'GR crown' over 'MR', and on the stock a crown over '1805'. Inscribed on the buttplate is the letter 'A' over the number '18'.
Muskets intended specifically for sea service appeared during the last quarter of the 17th century and had the heavy brass furniture and flat butt plate that was to characterise Sea Service muskets into the 19th century.
