UK S.I.N.S experimental model X3 use for navigational data
Designed at the ACO, 1961
Manufactured by Sperry Gyroscope at Bracknell, 1963
Installed in HMS/M Valiant at Barrow-in-Furness, 1965
Used for navigational data, latitude, longgitude and ship's head. Also provided roll and pitch for steering and hydroplanes abd supplied the submarine's clock system.
In 1967, HMS/M Valiant made a submerged passage from Portsmouth to Singapore - approximately 11,000 miles.
