Saucer

Saucer decorated with transfer-printing and hand painting commemorating Admiral of the Fleet, Adam Duncan (1731-1804) and Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Inside the saucer is a brown profile portrait inscribed 'ADMIRAL DUNCAN', transfer-printed in the centre. It is crude and unrecognisable, hand coloured with ochre, yellow and blue. The name 'Cathrine Chalmers' is painted below in cursive script. A brown transfer floral border inside is coloured ochre, green and blue; the outside is plain. On outside of the matching teabowl are two profile portraits inscribed 'ADMIRAL NELSON' and 'ADMIRAL DUNCAN', with a warship under sail, coloured as on the saucer. On the inside rim, is a floral border with the hand-painted name of the owner 'Cathrine Chalmers'.
