Thompson Model 1928 A1
Thompson Model 1928 A1 submachine gun. It has a wooden stock and pistol grip; the rest of the weapon is steel. It can be fitted with either a 20 or 30 round box magazine or a 50 or 100 round drum magazine (both missing). Blowback action. The barrel is fitted with a blade foresight and aperture rearsight. The calibre is 0.45in. Stamped on the gun is the following: serial number '30935'. British Ordnance marks consisting of a crown over 'MI' over 'E' The maker's mark 'AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION NEW YORK, NY, USA' is also stamped on the gun. The Thompson submachine gun was issued to both the Army and the Navy in 1939 but replaced in land service by the Sten submachine gun which was cheaper and easier to produce, and in the Navy by the Lanchester.
