SMLE Mark 1*
Short Magazine Lee-Enfield Mark 1*Rifle. It is fully stocked - the stock encases the barrel which screws into the body. It is fitted with a brass buttplate with a trap which covers the compartment bored into the butt to store cleaning equipment. It has a steel trigger and box magazine which holds eight rounds of ammunition. Bolt action. The barrel is rifled and fitted with a blade foresight protected by wings and a rearsight with screw lateral adjustment. The calibre is 0.303in. Stamped on the rifle is a crown over 'ER SPARKBROOK 1905 SHT LE 1*' and the serial number 'P19493'.
