Writing box
Wooden writing box with hinged lid belonging to Ernest J. Hedges (1871-1931), opening to form a writing slope, covered with maroon baize. Beneath the writing slope is an inner compartment containing an octagorial piece of marble. Along the front edge, pen and ink trays with an ink bottle in situ, and a pen tray beneath a swivel flap. A brass lockplate and a vacant brass plaque are inset in the lid. Base of box iscovered in baize.
