Table

Large octagonal table, parquetry design on a tripod base with lion paw feet. The central support is covered with rope twist, around the base are carved three shot which are repeated three times on panels also depicting anchors, the British ensign and the Union Flag. Made of 'Royal George' oak over a pine carcase. Inscribed round the top in parquetry: 'THIS TABLE IS MADE FROM PART OF ROYAL GEORGE SUNK AT SPITHEAD.' Inscribed brass plate on the foot: 'All the oak about this table is from a knee and part of the keelson of the ROYAL GEORGE, sunk at Spithead, August 19th 1782, and recovered by submarine explosion by Colonel Pasley, 1841, Greenholme, 1842. Henry Whitaker Delt: Thos Wood Junr: Fecit'. A key for one of drawers is in the table.
