Brooch

Almond-shaped brooch contained within a glazed, gold alloy setting surrounded by clear glass paste stones. The brooch comes complete with a suspension ring, so that it can also be worn as a pendant. There is also an attachment for a brooch pin, which is now missing. The front of the brooch contains a miniature, painted on card and ornamented with seed pearls. The miniature depicts a female figure leaning on an altar. The back of the brooch is inscribed 'Horatio Nelson to Lady Hamilton 1796'. There is an empty compartment at the back of the brooch, which is lined with silk.
