Alarm clock in folding travel case. 30-hour duration, four pillar, brass and steel single train, movement with pin pallet escapement and alarm mechanism. Plain brass two arm balance with flat spiral balance spring. Jewelled balance pivot holes, endstones, impulse roller and escape wheel pivot holes. Stamped on the back plate: '173617', 'Kienzle'. Stamped on a plate over the winding work:'KIENZLE UHRENFABRIKEN AG', 'GERMANY', 'SEVEN 970 JEWELS', 'UNADJUSTED'. Rectangular silvered dial with triangular batons and luminous dot markers. Brass hands, the minute and hour hands having luminous panels. Signed 'Kienzle', '7 RUBIS' below 12. The movement is covered by a metal cap with a central brass winding wheel (turned clockwise for the going and anticlockwise for the alarm) and hand setting knob. Rectangular brass bezel with ribbed decorative sides. Plastic glass over dial. The clock slides into a hinged brass frame within a blue leather covered folding case with pale blue satin lining. Printed in gold on the case lid 'BASTE & LANGE HAMBURG'. Part of a large collection of shipping company and advertising material donated by Mr Victor Brooks, a purser with the New Zealand Shipping Company and Port Line.
