Pocket watch in 18ct gold case. Thirty hour duration, single train, gilt brass, four pillar, capped fusee movement with type II Massey, ratchet tooth, lever escapement. Polished steel three-arm balance with flat spiral blued-steel balance spring. Escapement jewelled and diamond endstone in a blued-steel setting. Maintaining power. Balance cock engraved with a Ho-Ho bird and the word 'PATENT'. Bosley type regulator engraved with the words 'Slow' and 'Fast'. Barrel bridge engraved with the words 'John Wood Liverpool'. Upper plate engraved with 'No3552'. Plain gilt brass cap. Four colour gold dial with applied polished Roman hour numerals and floral border. Engine turned dial centre. Gold spade and poker hands. 18ct gold open face case with engine turned band and heavily chased front and rear bezels. Engine turned case back with a central uncut reserve. Chased gold pendant and bow. Hallmarked 'Chester 1826-1827' with makers incuse stamp 'T H & Co'. Engraved on the dome with the words 'Presented to Thof.Masterman Hardy R.N. by the Governorf of Greenwich Hofpital'. The winding hole is decorated with an engraving. Scratched inside back with '2174F', '2051h', '105553', '113351' and '1278'. Convex glass over dial. The watch is attached via a threaded gold clip and base metal split ring to a black velvet ribbon tied to a corroded watch key. The minute hand is a replacement. The watch is contained within a fitted blue leather case. The provenance of the watch is thought to be dubious.
