Medallion
Oval ivory medallion contained within a glazed, gold setting. The ivory is decorated with a depiction of a ship and bears the inscription 'JNO. KNOWSLEY CHARMING NANCY'.
This item, showing an armed merchant vessel, was presented with a miniature of John Knowsley, presumably her master and possibly her owner (see MNT0056). The presence of a lateen mizzen course (i.e. the lowest sail on the rear mast) suggests the image dates no later than the third quarter of the 18th century.
