Prism
Home made hollow prism. Composed of two flat pieces of glass glued with red substance (sealing wax), to form triangular shape. In envelope labeled "Hollow prism, No 2 Very ?".
This object comes from a 14 drawer cabinet found in the Herschel family home in the 1950s. Collectively the contents of this and a similar cabinet seems to suggest that they were used by successive generations of the family to store specimens, material and apparatus for carrying out experiments. This object was presumably assembled to carry out a particular experiment though it is unclear precisely what that might have been.
