Sketchbook (mainly Germany)

Largely or entirely by George Stanfield. Brown leatherette with pencil holder, brown leather binding with gold bands and tooling, button closure. Label of Winsor and Newton, 38 Rathbone Place, London (7 3/8 x 10 1/4 ins). 16 ff., buff and blue/grey paper. A numbered pencil list under head 'Academy' (ie possible RA submissions) in front of European locations: Frankfurt, Boulogne, Sion, Ripon, Roslyn [Chapel], Montreux, Chamonix, St Maurice, Saardam with names 'Hogg' 'Maryat' 'Wilkinsons' [patrons and subjects?] plus sketches of the artist (?) of whom no definite portrait is known. Landscape sketches including watercolour of an English church, a Rhine bridge and town, interior of a German town etc. There may be some some slight CS pieces but it basically appears to be a little-used sketch book of his that George Stanfield recycled.
