Medal commemorating the battle of the Glorious First of June, 1794. Obverse: Bust of Admiral of the Fleet Richard Howe (1726-1799) in a tie-wig, uniform and cloak (left). Legend: 'RIC : COMES HOWE VICE-ADMIRALLUS ANGLIAE &c.' Reverse: Neptune standing in his sea-car drawn by two horses, pointing with his right to a distant action (one vessel sinking) and with his left hand giving his trident to Britannia seated (right) with shield and trophies; a winged Victory above inscribing an obelisk with the names of the admirals who took part in the battle 'HOWE GRAVES BRIDPORT BOWYER CALDWELL GARDNER PASLEY'. Legend: 'NON NOBIS SED PATRIAE' (not to us but to our country). Exergue: 'MDCCXCIIII IST JUNE'.
