A drawing showing bow and stern decoration on the Edgar Class first class protected cruiser Hawke (1891), with the following inscriptions:
-'Approved for 'Hawke' and 'Edgar'. Circulated for guidance in all the ships. Stern carving omitted in 'Hawke'.'
-'Devonport Yard Noted and returned 9th September 1890 J Muddy Chief Constructor'
-'Thames Ironworks Noted Nov 13th 1890...Admiralty Overseer'
-'Earles Shipyard 25 Nov 1890 Noted and returned...Overseer'
-'Napier Yard 20 Nov 1890 Noted J Coart Overseer'
On the reverse:
-'Noted and returned Chatham Yard 27 August 1890...Chief Constructor'
