Fiery Cross (1855)
Scale 1:48. Drawing showing the sheer lines, two body plans and longitudinal half breadth for Fiery Cross (1855), a three-masted sailing clipper, as taken off in dock in October 1858. A version of this plan was published in reverse in Basil Lubbock's 'The China Clippers' (opposite page 132). The ship sailed from Foochow to London in 114 days with a cargo of tea, leaving on 27 June 1858 and arriving on 19 October 1858.
On the reverse is an incomplete sheer lines (stops before the bow, incomplete drawing) and longitudinal half-breadth for an unknown three-masted ship. A pencil note on the edge of the plan ststes 'Fiery Cross & Kent', although 'Kent' has been struck through. However, the stern windows on the sheer lines are a very similar layout to the wooden three-masted ship Kent (1853), built by Wigrams of Blackwall.
