Badge depicting the Arms of the City of Westminster
Badge or medallet depicting the arms of the City of Westminster. Obverse: The arms of the City of Westminster surmounted by the sword of Justice and the crown. The motto 'DISCITE JUSTITIAM MONITI' the whole surrounded by scrolls incorporating vestigial mantling. Reverse: Inscribed, 'Captn. George Bague RN'. Suspended by a hook from an ornamental bar on a dark blue ribbon. (The date given refers to that of the silversmith's mark on the reverse.) Bague was a magistrate of the County of Middlesex in the middle 1840s. Why the arms should bear the motto of the Russell family is not known.
