Legend: 'DESCOBRIMENTO DO BRAZIL GLORIA Á PEDRO ALVARES CABRAL.' (The Discovery of Brazil. honour to Pedro Alvares Cabral.) Left: '1500'. Right: '1900'. Reverse: Within a band with stars, a kneeling winged figure, crowned and draped, writing an inscription on a rock. Legend: 'INSTITUTUM HISTORIC . GEOGRAPHIC . IN URBE FLUMIN . CONDIT . DIE .
