The pedestal stands on the deck of an armed vessel with a ram bow, on which are two nude figures. Sea horizon in distance, with the 'Courbet', battleship (right), rocky promontory (left). Legend: 'MONUMENT . ELEVE . A . LA . GLOIRE . DE . L'AMIRAL . COURBET.' Exergue: 'A . FALGUIÈRE . A . MERCIE STATS. P. PUJOL ARCH.' Reverse: Engraved on an ornamental cartouche, 'A.
