Medal commemorating the Tacna and Arica campaign, 1879-80. Obverse: A five-pointed star with rays between the points; head of Bellona (centre) silver gilt surrounded by a band of blue enamel, inscribed: 'CAMPANA A BOLIVIA I EL PERU.' (Campaign against Bolivia and Peru.) Reverse: Similar, blue enamel (centre) inscribed in gold letters, surrounded by a band of red enamel. 'DE 14 DE FEBRERO DE 1879 A 7 DE JUNIO DE 1880.' Clasps: (1) 'SAN FRANCISCO; NOVIEMBRE 19 1879'; (2) 'TACNA MAYO 26 1890'. (3) 'ARICA JUNIO 7 1880'. Dates placed on the reverse of the clasps. Fitted with a loop and ring and red ribbon.
