Obverse: Shield bearing the device of a sea creature (a Nautilus) floating on waves, behind a rayed sun rising from the sea; the shield is surmounted by a naval crown and trident head, and supported by two dolphins with oak sprays above them. Reverse: A trident, inscription below. 'INSTITUTION OF NAVAL ARCHITECTS FOUNDED A.D.1860.' Box: 'BADGE CONGRESS OF NAVAL ARCHITECTS & MARINE ENGINEERS'. Suspended from a red and blue ribbon bow, with date 1897 thereon. With spare blue ribbon bow. In card box of issue.
