Rectangular ingot depicting a view of a Hansa cog, fourteenth century

Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of a Hansa cog of the fourteenth century, sail set. Two figures standing on the stern. Inscription: 'HANSA COG'. Reverse: Inscription, 'HANSA COG, Fourteenth Century. The Hansa Cog was the predominant merchant ship of the Northern European seas for more than 200 years. She was cheaper to build and could carry more cargo than the Viking vessels that preceded her. The Hansa Cog's high sides and fore and aft castles provided protection against attack by pirates.'
