Ingot commemorating the brig 'Pilgrim'
Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Port broadside view of the brig 'Pilgrim', sails set. Inscription: 'PILGRIM'. Reverse: Inscription, 'PILGRIM 1834-1835. Immortalized in "Two Years Before the Mast" Richard Dana's classic tale of the sea, the "Pilgrim" was typical of the brigs that dominated merchant shipping during the early part of the nineteenth century. The brig was distinguished by having two masts, both of which were square-rigged.'
