Ingot commemorating 'La Belle Poule'
Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard view of 'La Belle Poule', sails set. Inscription: 'LA BELLE POULE'. Reverse: Inscription, 'LA BELLE POULE 1840. Considered the ultimate in sailing ship design "La Belle Poule" was the pride of the French Navy. Her rigging established the pattern for numerous three-masted square-riggers subsequently launched. She is best remembered as the ship which carried Napoleon's remains from St. Helena for interment in France.'
