Teapot with lid

White, salt glazed, stoneware teapot moulded in relief, commemorating Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), the capture of Porto Bello in 1739 and of Chagres in 1740. On one side is a standing figure inscribed 'R. AD. VERNON' and a view inscribed 'FORT CHAGRE'. On the other side, a fleet and a town inscribed '...ORTO BELLO TAKEN'. The corner panels are moulded with birds on branches. The teapot has a serpentine spout with a head and serpentine handle. The knop of the lid is in the form of a seated animal (its head is missing).
