Legend: "SIGIL.D.CAROLI.HOWARD.BARON.DE.EFFINGHAM.PRAECLARI.ORDINIS.GARTERII.MILITIS.MAGNI.ADMIRALLI.ANGLIAE.ET.CET.Ao1585". Reverse: above, the burgee of the club, an anchor (L&R). Space below for recipient's name and award. Legend: "THE ROYAL CRUISING CLUB, MEDAL FOR SEAMANSHIP". The design on the obverse is taken from Lord Howard's seal, a cast of which is in the Museum.
