Port of Plymouth Humane Society Bronze Cross
Uniface Maltese cross, crowned, on a laurel garland with central medallion of a man diving to rescue a drowning figure. Reverse: Inscription incuse. 'PORT OF PLYMOUTH HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDED TO SYDNEY HARRIS FOR SAVING THE LIFE OF LUCY WINNICOTT AT STONEHOUSE ON JULY 10th 1892'. Suspended by a ring from a dark blue ribbon with a brooch pin bar.
Sydney Harris born circa 1862, was a carpenter and joiner, the son of John Harris retired shipwright. The family were living in Cremyll Street, East Stonehouse in 1891, near the Royal Dockyard. Lucy Winnicott, who he rescued, was probably Louisa Eleanor Winnicott.
