Inscription: 'REFUGE'. Below, a ribbon with date '1791'. Legend: 'THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF MASSACHUSETTS'. Reverse: A coat of arms, field divided vertically: a standing figure of an Indian armed with bow and arrows (left) the stars and stripes (right) (The arms of Massachussetts). For crest an oyster shell and star, a ribbon inscribed below 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'. Legend: 'SUB LIBERTATE QUIETEM'. On edge: 'Presented by the Humane Society.'
