Mug
Large creamware mug, transfer-printed in black with a single-decked warship under sail, wearing an ensign and pennant, the sea in a scroll cartouche with small naval trophies (the sails show the wind blowing in the opposite direction to the pennant). On each side of the mug, two men in sailor's dress, one holding a leadline, the other an octant. Under the latter is inscribed: 'We have had a good Observation today/And I hope we shall make the Land/Tomorrow'.
