Roof artificial horizon
A rectangular black-lacquered iron trough and an iron-framed roof-shaped cover. Two sides of the cover have clear glass panels, at an angle of 90 degrees. Accompanying the instrument is a full, circular metal jar with a threaded stopper for storing the mercury when the instrument is not in use.
The artificial horizon is contained in a fitted wooden carrying box, stamped on the inside ‘6343’. Inside the lid in pencil is the inscription ‘Ponsonby D. N° 9 G. Murry E.T. Adams 1905’.
