Compass card

Wooden box, aluminium rim. Paper card supported by string from an aluminium centre. Quadrantal in degrees. Graduation in 1/4 points. Two scales. Eight parallel needles. Designed by Sir William Thompson, Lord Kelvin, in 1876. Used in Royal Navy until 1907 and still used in Merchant Navy.
