House flag, Oregon Steamship Co. Ltd

The house flag of the Oregon Steamship Co. Ltd, London. Design: an olive green rectangular flag with a black diamond in the centre bearing a letter 'O' in white. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting with a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. A rope and toggle are attached.

The Oregon Steamship Company was a founded in Wales in association with Sir James German & Co. Ltd. The company's headquarters moved to London around 1940. After World War II and the loss of the company’s two ships, the business chartered vessels for grain shipment. In 1961 the company moved into ship ownership again buying three vessels in this decade (‘Londoner’ 1961, ‘Lutetian’ 1967, and ‘Lawrentian’ 1969). It also managed three Liberian registered vessels owned by the New York head office and continued to manage chartered vessels. During the 1970s the company moved out of ship ownership, and by 1979 it had sold its last ocean-going vessel.
