Cross-tubular body, adjustable base graduated to 360 degrees and fitted with verier scale 0-60. Bottom has a screw which rotates the instrument in azimuth about its base.
Sights-Four vertical slit sights are cut in to tubular body.
Compass-Dia. 3" (7.6cm) set in top of instrument. Fitted wih an edge bar bar needle 2.25" (5.8cm) long, with a jewelled pivot cap at centre. A needle lifting mechanism is fitted and is operated by a stud in rim of bowl. Graduated to 8 points, quadrantally in degrees and anti-clockwise to 360 degs. Fitted with a brass lid.
