Uncatalogued: Journal of John Clutterbuck during the French Revolutionary War
Volume containing the journal of John Clutterbuck, from 14 November 1796 onwards, giving an account of how his ship got into difficulties off the coast of Brittany(?) and he was held captive in France for nearly two years.
It includes accounts of marches from Pontarmezeux(?) to Fontainbleau, from Fontainbleau to Mezieres, and from Mezieres to Dunkirk, prior to an exchange of prisoners, between April 1798 and November 1798.
The volume also contains notes on family history, including his birth in London in 1775 and details of his children, including Elizabeth Clutterbuck, who married Charles Green in Bloomsbury in 1816.
