A collection of items relating to before and after World War One including a photograph album showing shipboard life during the First World War at sea, including his commissions for HMS GLORY, HECTOR (balloon ship), and RESOLUTION (1914 - 1919). Subjects include Halifax, Malta, naval airship station at Mudros, the Dardenelles and Anzac Cove, the initial advance of the light cruisers at Jutland and the scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet. Also included are family and home photographs taken while on leave, chronologically interwoven between commissions. Midshipman's Journal kept by Rayne, HMS REVENGE (September 1897 to September 1899). Rayne's personal war diary written between 27 September 1915 and 1 December 1918, including naval signals (telegrams) and press cuttings following the progress of the conflict.
