Certificates, orders, reports, newspaper cuttings and photographs relating to Gonin's career at sea, then as a naval intelligence officer during the Second World War. Including orders for HMS THANET to escort the transport TAGUS to the Finnish port of Hango to pick up British prisoners freed by the Russians, 1920. There are many typescript sheets with reports and recollections of wartime operations in which Gonin was involved. Also the history of the French sub-section of the Naval Intelligence Division Section 1. A diary kept during the German occupation of Belgium by Gonin's cook Alice, 1940-1944. Group portrait of staff of the SHAEF Mission in Brussels including Gonin, 1944-1945. Album of photographs and postcards covering Gonin's career and naval events in the period 1917-1922. Including photographs showing the Grand Fleet, American Battle Squadron and German Fleet at Scapa Flow. Photographs of CMBs built by Thornycroft, at Osea Island, in the estuary of the River Thames and wrecked at Zeebrugge. Also photographs taken during cruises made by destroyers in the Baltic and Mediterranean.
