Tureen

One of a pair of earthenware tureens (AAA5275-AAA5276). It has a white body, transfer-printed in blue on each side with a garter belt inscribed 'FIRST OF JUNE 1794', enclosing the word 'HOWE', a naval crown above and flanked by a laurel and oak branch. The tureen has two handles with acanthus leaf terminals. The handles, scrolled base and rim are gilded. The lid is missing. The retailers address is printed in blue on the base: 'J. C. FORSTER CHINA MERCHANT CHATHAM'.
