Command flag, Admiral of the Fleet, Imperial Germany (before 1919)
Imperial Germany (before 1919) command flag for the Admiral of the Fleet. It is the last standard used by Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1942) when visiting the High Seas Fleet during the First World War.
Machine and hand sewn wool bunting flag with a linen hoist. It has a white field with a black iron cross superimposed on crossed admiral's batons with gold imperial crown in the centre. The black cross is applied with hand stitching and the edge of the white border is painted round it. The design is painted on both sides and a rope is attached to hoist the flag. On the hoist: 'Gros Admiral Fl Boot' - this is a boat flag.
