A crowd gathered around the scene of a fire at The Terrace, Gravesend, 1892
A 12x10 negative. A crowd gathered around the ruins of buildings in The Terrace, Gravesend, following a fire during the night of 18 October 1892.
The 22 October 1892 issue of the ‘Gravesend Reporter’ states that the fire entirely destroyed the City of London public house and a shop at numbers 27 and 28 The Terrace. Two of the adjoining houses damaged by fire and water were occupied by Trinity House pilots and their families. The date 19/10/92 is written in the varnish on the emulsion side of the negative. Pieces of card and masking paint have been added to the sky areas.
